Get Smart, Get NASNET

Have you joined NASNET yet?

NASNET is the free moderated email list hosted by the National Association of Scholars. Think of it as a butterfly net we use to scoop up lots of interesting finds and pass them on to you.

The purpose of NASNET is to provide an easy way to keep up with higher education commentary, especially commentary from the National Association of Scholars.

Dr. Robert L. Jackson, Associate Professor of English and Education at The King’s College in New York City, became the new moderator in November 2010. Every so often (but you never know quite when), he dispatches an NASNET email with a handful or so of links to articles clustered around a particular theme. He gives these reports an imaginative spin and his emails sometimes include videos, pictures, and quirky stories, and he approaches his themes with winsome whimsy.

Recently he has covered “Academic Shibboleths,” “Philanthropy, Technology, and Race,” and “Innovations for the Liberal Arts.” He draws on diverse sources for inspiration, ranging from the Wall Street Journal to YouTube to the NAS blog to William Zinsser’s columns at the American Scholar.

Asked about the value of this project, Dr. Jackson said, “Given the various forms of political correctness in the precincts of higher education, NASNET keeps an eye on the insidious means of promoting such illiberal instruction.  NASNET gathers the evidence in hopes of fostering a discerning readership.  To quote Jefferson, ‘an informed citizenry is the only true repository of the public will.’”

Don’t miss out any longer. Join NASNET and be privy to the best and latest in academe—and its lighter side.
