About this event:

For the past eight years, the National Association of Scholars has surveyed what books colleges and universities assign as common reading—often a summer reading selection for incoming freshmen. For many students, this is the only book they will read in common with all their classmates.

The NAS will hold an event to launch our report on these “beach books.” Our findings this year focus on examining the institutional structures within colleges and universities that ensure that common readings fall within a narrow genre: parochial, contemporary, juvenile, and progressive. We make specific recommendations for how to reform college institutions so as to select better common readings.

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. RSVP here to secure your seat.
