VIDEO: China's Soft Power Strategy: Influence in American Education

National Association of Scholars

How has China's strategy of soft power in education shifted since the tarnishing of its brand in the form of Confucius Institutes, and since COVID-19 more broadly? Does China seek to sway America’s perceptions overall v. elites? Are their programs used as a cover for other activities?

In this webinar we will discuss China’s interest in U.S. primary education in the context of its national outlook and objectives. We will cover China’s goals in the U.S. and compare this to its activities elsewhere in the world with equivalent programs.

This event features Jimmy Quinn, the national security correspondent for the National Review and China specialist; and Ian Oxnevad, senior fellow for foreign affairs and security studies at the National Association of Scholars.
